What AsanaPals stores, and where.

Technical facts come first, checked against the app's source code. Legal information comes after, clearly marked. Last updated 3 October 2026.

Part 1 · Technical facts

The app

Is an account required?
No. There is no account and no sign in.
Does the app use the network?
No. The release build removes the internet and network-state permissions, and the build fails if the internet permission comes back. Google Play checks that the app came from Google Play through the Play Store app, which may need to connect once after a long time offline; AsanaPals itself never connects.
What permissions does it ask for?
Nothing that asks you anything. No camera, microphone, location, storage or notifications. A permission the video library would add (keeping the screen awake) is removed too. The only permission is Google Play's own licence check, which Play adds to protect the paid app; it shows no prompt and reads nothing of yours.
Is there analytics or crash reporting?
No analytics, tracking or crash-reporting library is included.
What is stored, and where?
Your name, your companion choice, your settings, your moments and your garden, in the app's private storage. Your moments, garden and settings are stored only on your phone. If you choose to save a backup, it is a file you keep and move yourself; AsanaPals never sends it anywhere and has no access to it once it leaves the app.
What leaves the device?
Nothing, automatically. Cloud backup and device-to-device transfer are switched off for the app's data. If you choose Save a backup, the file goes only where you save it. If you choose Send feedback, your own email app opens with a message you can edit or discard.
Can I keep my moments if I change phones?
Yes. In the app, open Settings and choose "Save a backup". That saves one small file wherever you choose. Move the file to your new phone, open Settings there and choose "Restore a backup".
Where does my backup go?
Only where you save it. AsanaPals has no account and no cloud, and it never sends your backup anywhere. You choose the place, and you move the file yourself.
What is inside a backup?
Your moments, your garden and the flows you saved. Nothing about who you are: not your name, your companion or your settings. It is a plain text file, so you can open it and see exactly what it holds.
What happens when I restore a backup?
The app asks first. If you agree, the moments, garden and saved flows on that phone are replaced by the ones in the backup. Anything you kept after the backup was saved is let go, so save a fresh backup before you switch phones.
What if my backup file gets damaged or changed?
The app checks every backup before it restores anything. If the file was damaged or changed after it was saved, the app tells you and changes nothing on your phone.
Does the app back up to Google or the cloud?
No. Cloud backup is switched off. The only copy that ever leaves your phone is a backup file you save and move yourself.
Is the camera ever used?
No. You watch Babu move; nothing watches you.
Where do the voice, video and sounds come from?
Everything is bundled in the app: fonts, videos, ambience audio and art. The voice uses the phone's own on-device speech engine.

Deleting the app removes everything it stored. Cloud backup is off, so nothing comes back on another phone unless you restore a backup file you saved yourself.

Part 2 · Technical facts

This website

What the website collects

What you send through the waitlist form, and, only if you allow it, analytics about your visit. Nothing else is collected while you browse.

The waitlist form, only if you tick its consent box:

  • your email address;
  • your yes or no answer to whether you would buy AsanaPals when it is on Google Play;
  • whether you asked to test AsanaPals before launch, and whether you have one of the first 100 early testing places;
  • the date and time you sent it, as the record of your consent.

Joining is free and is not a purchase or pre-order: we never ask for payment details, and your answer about buying does not oblige you to buy anything.

If you asked for early testing, we email you before anything happens. Google Play adds testers by the email address of their Google account, so the form asks for that address. If you used another one, we will ask which address to use. Nothing is shared with Google unless you reply and agree. Once you agree, we add that one address to the AsanaPals tester list in Google Play Console, so Google Play lets you install the test; Google handles it under its own privacy policy.

These are stored in a Cloudflare D1 database run by Cloudflare for the operator. Nothing on the website can read the list back. Your IP address is not stored. If saving fails, the site records a short technical note about the fault (which form and what went wrong, never your email or answers) so it can be fixed; Cloudflare keeps these notes for up to 3 days.

Bot check on the forms

To stop abuse, each form accepts only a few submissions a minute from the same connection. The count uses a one-way hash of your IP address, is kept for at most a minute, and is never stored with your answers or email.

The waitlist page loads Cloudflare Turnstile to check that a person, not a bot, is sending the form. Turnstile runs only there and processes technical signals from your browser for that check. Your email and your answers are never sent to it.

Analytics, only if you allow it

On your first visit the site asks whether it may use Google Analytics. Until you choose Allow, nothing is loaded from Google and no analytics cookie is set. No thanks, or ignoring the question, keeps it that way.

If you allow it, Google Analytics records:

  • the pages you view and how long you stay;
  • when you scroll most of the way down a page;
  • when you start or send the waitlist form, but never what you typed;
  • when you follow a link to another website, and which one;
  • when you open a file from the site, such as a font licence;
  • how you arrived, such as the site or campaign link you came from;
  • your device type, browser and approximate location, worked out by Google;
  • that you joined the waitlist, with your yes or no answer to whether you would buy it and whether you asked for early testing;

It never receives your email address, anything you type, or your other answers. Google states that Google Analytics 4 does not log or store IP addresses. Google signals and ad personalisation are switched off. Its cookies (named _ga and _ga_ followed by an ID) last up to 13 months.

You can change your mind at any time with Analytics settings at the bottom of every page. Choosing No thanks switches analytics off and removes its cookies. The site asks again after 13 months.

Cookies, storage and hosting

This website sets no cookies of its own. It remembers your analytics choice in your browser's local storage so it does not ask on every page. Google Analytics cookies are set only if you allow them. Apart from Turnstile on the waitlist form and Google Analytics if you allow it, fonts, images and video are served from this site itself, and there are no advertising requests. The site is hosted on Cloudflare, which necessarily sees your IP address and browser details in order to deliver the page.

Your data and your rights

This part is our reading of data protection law and our commitments to you. It is not a certification, and it is not legal advice.

Who is responsible

AsanaPals is operated by Vikas Sahani, who decides how any personal data sent through this website is used (the controller under the GDPR, the data fiduciary under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023). Privacy questions and requests go to asanapals@gmail.com. We aim to answer within 30 days.

Why we may hold your email

Your explicit, opt-in consent, given by ticking the box. The tick is separate from the yes or no answer, so answering is never treated as agreement to be contacted. You can withdraw consent with one email to asanapals@gmail.com.

We use it to count interest and to email you once when AsanaPals is available, plus at most a short note if the project changes direction or stops. If you asked for early testing, we also email you about joining the test and ask once for your feedback. We never sell or rent it, and we do not use it to train AI models. The only sharing is the one described above: adding a tester’s address to our Google Play tester list, after the tester agrees by email.

Why we may use analytics

Your consent, given by choosing Allow. We use analytics only to learn which pages help people, where interested visitors come from, and how many would buy AsanaPals. Google processes this data for us and may do so in the United States and other countries. Detailed analytics data is kept for no longer than 14 months. Withdrawing consent with Analytics settings stops any further collection.

Where it is stored and for how long

The database's primary location is in Western Europe, and Cloudflare may process data in other countries to run its network. Ask us which safeguards apply. We keep your entry until you have been told about the launch, until you ask us to delete it, or for 24 months without a launch, whichever comes first, and then delete it. A tester’s address is removed from the Google Play tester list when testing ends or when they ask, whichever comes first.

Your rights

Wherever you live, you can ask us to show you, correct or delete any data we hold about you, to stop using it, or to give it to you in a portable file. Email asanapals@gmail.com from the address concerned. There is no fee. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.

Children

This website is not intended for anyone under 18. If a child's email has reached us, write to asanapals@gmail.com and we will erase it.

Changes

If what we collect changes, this page is updated before the change goes live, and anyone who gave us an email is told. We will not quietly widen the use of data you already gave us.
